About Us

For All the Children is a registered charitable corporation with the state of Pennsylvania, currently working through 501(c)(3) paperwork with our board of 12 active members. We're a faith-based organization dedicated to empowering youth ages 2-24 with the tools, confidence, and community support they need to discover their unique purpose and path to success.

Our Mission

We work from all angles to provide the support that families and youth need to thrive—from housing and childcare to food programs and an alumni program for young adults. We empower youth to serve elders, steward their neighborhoods, and learn foundational skills to implement their purpose now and in adulthood.

Our Approach

We work WITH, not against, other nonprofits and churches in Wilkinsburg, Homewood, and Pittsburgh. We provide dedicated social workers to connect kids with pre-existing services and transportation so they can access camps, apprenticeships, and world-class museums rather than being confined to their neighborhood.

Our Vision

Starting in Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg with housing, nutrition, culturally relevant afterschool programs, and our Workforce of the Future Program featuring emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and cutting-edge STEAM curriculum with AI foundations and ethics.

The Urgent Reality We're Facing

In Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg, PA, children face unprecedented challenges that threaten their futures. The data is sobering, but intervention works—and that's where we come in.

📖 Literacy Crisis

▼ Hover for details
⚠️ Many U.S. children are performing below grade level in reading, arriving at high school unprepared for college-level work
⚠️ Functional illiteracy is increasingly common, even among high school graduates
⚠️ Inability to read puts young people at significant disadvantage for jobs, resources, and basic life skills
⚠️ Functional illiteracy is positively correlated with increased rates of incarceration and debilitating low self-esteem

🏠 Housing Instability

▼ Hover for details
⚠️ In 2023, over 5,000 Pittsburghers had to sleep on streets, in abandoned buildings, or tents because there weren't enough shelter beds
⚠️ Many children are shuffled between multiple locations with gaps in care, not knowing where they'll stay or which school they'll attend
⚠️ Housing insecurity dramatically affects children's ability to focus on schoolwork and perform at grade level

💔 Poverty & Resource Gaps

▼ Hover for details
⚠️ Poverty and isolation lead to stress, exacerbating health problems and shortening lives
⚠️ Economic barriers prevent access to quality education, healthcare, and basic necessities
⚠️ Children from low-income families face reduced access to enrichment activities, technology, and learning resources
⚠️ Food insecurity affects cognitive development and academic performance

🤝 Lack of Mentorship & Support

▼ Hover for details
⚠️ According to the CDC, there is a loneliness epidemic in American society affecting half of adults
⚠️ Daily loneliness is as costly to health as smoking 15 cigarettes per day, according to the Surgeon General
⚠️ Many children lack consistent adult role models who can guide them toward positive futures
⚠️ Without mentorship, youth struggle to envision possibilities beyond their immediate circumstances

🔄 The Interconnected Cycle

▼ Hover for details
⚠️ These challenges don't exist in isolation—they compound and reinforce each other
⚠️ A child experiencing housing instability is more likely to struggle academically, miss school, face health issues, and lack consistent mentorship
⚠️ Breaking this cycle requires comprehensive intervention that addresses multiple needs simultaneously—which is exactly what For All the Children provides

✨ But Here's the Hope: Intervention Works

Research shows that comprehensive intervention addressing multiple risk factors simultaneously is far more effective than isolated services. When we provide housing, education, nutrition, mentorship, and emotional support together, we break the cycle and transform lives.
